“PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte is the No.1 protector of our laws in the land,” Presidential Communications Office Secretary Martin Andanar said as he slammed Sen. Leila de Lima’s accusations that Duterte is a possible top drug lord protector.
De Lima made the claim after Duterte’s admission that he reinstated the chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Region 8 (CIDG-8) Supt. Marvin Marcos who is being investigated in connection with the death of Leyte town Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. in an alleged shootout with the police.
“The Senator has her own opinion. She is entitled to her own opinion. She is a senator of the land. And let our Department of Justice secretary answer her,” Andanar said.
Andanar likewise said that Malacañang is taking with a grain of salt the statements of Sen.Panfilo Ping Lacson that the President has a double standard in his war on illegal drugs after the cops tagged in the killing of Mayor Espinosa Sr. were temporarily allowed to go home.
“Again, I would like to say it all over again that any suggestions, and any objective criticisms coming from the Senate, from our wise men in the Senate are accepted wholeheartedly and we shall be guided by any suggestions and any criticism as long as they are objective,” Andanar said.
He added that Lacson’s statement is well noted by the Palace, pointing out that “just like any person who gets criticized objectively and we take it openly, we will listen to him and we will also listen to our own Philippine National Police Chief.”
