AN ACTIVE member of the La Union Police Provincial Office found himself in jail and facing the prospect of being dismissed from the service after he was arrested by combined officers of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the local police in an anti-narcotics raid in Rosales, Pangasinan, PDEA Director General Isidro S. Lapeña announced yesterday.
Police Officer 3 Christian Caspillo, a 35-year old resident of Barangay Camangaan in Rosales town assigned with the Naguilian Municipal Police Station in La Union, was arrested after officers found shabu, assorted ammunition and magazines and two M2-3 ammunition inside his house which they raided on the strength of a search warrant for illegal drugs and weapons issued by a local court.
Lapeña said that seized inside the cop’s residence were a plastic sachet containing less than a gram of shabu, 14 assorted magazines, 13 live M-14 ammunition, two M-16 ammunition, two pieces of ammunition for M203 grenade launcher, 35 cal. .45 bullets, three 9mm ammunition and a bandolier.
Caspillo is now facing charges for violation of Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs) and Section 12 (Possession of Equipment and Other Drug Paraphernalia), Article II of Republic Act 9165 or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and violation of RA 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Meanwhile, anti-narcotics campaign by the Police Regional Office 1 have already resulted in the arrest of 268 notorious drug personalities in Ilocos-Pangasinan region and the killing of one armed shabu dealer during a gunbattle with undercover agents, PRO1 director, Chief Superintendent Gregorio R. Pimentel announced yesterday.
“We are further intensifying our anti-illegal drug campaign thru the implementation of the PNP Oplan: Double Barrel Alpha from the region down to the lowest police units,” said Pimentel.
Pimentel said that since they shifted their effort to ‘high-value’ drug targets in all identified drug-afflicted barangays in the region, 268 known drug personalities have been arrested and jailed.
The official said that the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office headed by Senior Supt. Ronald O. Lee arrested 180 of the suspects while the La Union PPO under Senior Supt. Leo Francisco apprehended 66.
The Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte police force jailed 11 suspects each during the period.
Pimentel said that since last October 26, his men have already visited over 273,000 houses in the region in line with the conduct of the PNP Oplan: Tokhang prompting the surrender of 1,223 confessed drug personalities, 963 of them coming from Pangasinan followed by 136 in La Union, 50 in Ilocos Sur and 73 in Ilocos Norte.
The drug surrenderers have already signed their individual pledge of commitment to stop their illegal activities and support the government’s massive anti-drugs drive.
