PDEA agents jail 28, seize cache of shabu, marijuana

TWENTY-EIGHT suspected drug personalities were arrested by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in a series of anti-narcotics operations in the countryside this week which resulted in the seizure of a cache of shabu and marijuana, PDEA Director General Isidro S. Lapeña said yesterday.

One of the suspects identified as Keith Cuencia, a 28-year old tricycle driver from Purok Bañez, Barangay Zone IV, Koronadal City was arrested last Monday after he sold seven kilos of marijuana worth P35,000 to an undercover officer of the PDEA Regional Office 12.
   
Cuencia also yielded one green canister containing empty plastic sachets, one bamboo sealer, one pair of surgical scissors and one mobile phone when frisked.
   
Last Thursday, PDEA Region 12 operatives arrested Jerson Ortega, 30, and Arnel Suralta 26, after they conspired to sell eight kilograms of dried marijuana bricks to a poseur in Kasilak, Silway Fatima, Barangay Dadiangas West, General Santos City.
   
In La Union, PDEA Region 1 agents arrested Ronnie Cabilatazan, a ‘kagawad’ of Bgy. San Julian East in Agoo, La Union last Friday after four plastic sachets containing some P6,000 worth of shabu were discovered inside his house which was raided for violation of the anti-drug law.
   
In Maguindanao, combined PDEA and Army operatives smashed two drug dens and arrested 19 suspects including the owners of the drug dives during simultaneous anti-drug operations last Wednesday in Bgys. Kusiong and Tapian in Datu Odin Sinsuat municipality.
   
The operations led in the arrest of suspected drug den owners Aya Balabaran  alias Commander Biente, 44; and Lamie Mamasabakulod alias Commander Lawin, an incumbent councilor of Bgy. Tapian and suspected drug dealers Normina Tampugao and Almendras Mama Jr.
   
Both Balabaran and Mamasabakulod were identified as members of the Moro Islamic Liberation.
   
Also arrested during the anti-narcotics raids were Abdullah Daud, 42; Rommel Garrigues, 46; Dante Kasan, 37; Bimbo Mamenteng, 23; Nando Pinagayaw; Norsalin Pinagayaw, 20; Benjamin Sapi, 53, Jamil Tampugao, 37; Dali Abdula, 22; Junrey Cuaton, 29; Johari Kugay, 23; Nashroden Mangandog, 45; Faisal Mantoc, 48; Isidro Suganob, 35; and Bogie Tadas, 36. All were described as either employees or customers of the raided drug dens.
   
Seized during the raids were 274 plastic sachets containing around 106 grams of shabu worth P530,000, assorted firearms and ammunition and various drug paraphernalia.
