Crime group leader slain in Zambo encounter

A notorious leader of a lawless group, who was also a top drug personality and most wanted person in the region, was killed in an encounter with government forces the other day in Zamboanga del Sur.

The fatality was identified as Norhan Ambol, alias Nho and Bungi, leader of the “AMBOL Group.”
Records showed that Ambol was the topmost wanted person for illegal drugs and second most wanted person in Region 9 in 2015. He has standing warrant of arrest under CC 1643-D (direct assault), CC 12-086 (murder) and CC 11-077 (illegal possession of firearms).
    Reports from Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion commander Lt. Col. Virgilio C.Hamos Jr. said the encounter occurred at 1:35 p.m. Sitio Balaisan, Bgy. East Migpulao, Dinas.
Troops from Charlie Company, 53rd IB (Matapat), 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division, were conducting law enforcement operation in the area when they encountered some 10 members of the group.
A 15-minute firefight ensued, resulting in the killing of the suspect.
The troopers recovered the suspect’s body and an M-16 rifle with three magazines, hammocks and  two backpacks with personal belongings.
It was learned that the group of the suspect was responsible for the ambush of Bravo Company on Nov. 21, 2016.
