FIVE men reportedly involved in illegal drug activities were killed while two others were arrested in separate anti-illegal drug operations conducted by the Quezon City Police District in three barangays in the city.
Acting QCPD director Senior Supt. Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar said suspect Edgardo Areta, 49, of 57, of Osmeña corner Magsaysay Sts., TS Cruz Subdivision, Bgy. San Agustin, Novaliches, QC, was killed after he fought off operatives of QCPD PS-4 headed by Supt. April Mark Young. Operatives also arrested two younger siblings of the slain suspect identified as Benito, 41, and Romeo, 47.
Police said the Areta brothers were listed in the drug watchlist of PS-4.
Reports said that at 4:10 p.m. Saturday, Station Anti-Illegal Drugs (SAID) operatives of QCPD PS4 conducted validation of a text message from a concerned citizen regarding selling of shabu at Osmeña corner Magsaysay Sts., TS Cruz Subd.
Upon arrival in the area, the operatives spotted a group of men in the act of selling shabu. The suspects noticed the presence of the lawmen and scampered to different directions.
Areta ran towards their house, pulled out a gun and fired at the pursuing operatives, who retaliated, hitting and wounding him. The suspect was rushed to Novaliches District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
In another operation at about 11:00 p.m. yesterday, QCPD Police Station 6’s Anti-illegal Drugs Operatives (SAID) headed by Supt. Fernandez, of RTC Brach 97, QC, for violation of RA 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Patay’s team was approaching Cabusa’s house when Cabusa’s cohort, Ruel Faron, sensed the presence of the operatives and hurriedly ran towards the residence of Joel.
Ruel shouted “Joel, may mga pulis” and barged in, drew their firearms and fired at the operatives. The lawmen ordered the suspects to surrender peacefully but opted to shoot it out with the former, wounding the two suspects who were rushed to the Quirino Memorial Medical Center but were declared dead on arrival.
At 2 a.m. yesterday, QCPD Masambong PS-2 personnel, led by Supt. Igmedio Bernaldez, conducted a buy-bust operation against Rodolfo Bano, a.k.a. Jay-R, and a certain “Jojo” at 71-D, Road 3, Bgy. Project 6. The duo are notorious drug pushers/peddlers and were listed in the barangay drug watchlist.
An operative acting as poseur-buyer was able to buy P500 worth of shabu from Jay-R and Jojo. Sensing the presence of lawmen in the area, the suspects drew their firearms and fired at the operatives, prompting the latter to retaliate resulting in the death of the suspects.
