High hopes for PYD team

The Pinoy Youth Dreamers, headed by founding president-coach Beaujing Acot,  will be one of the favorites in the  MVP Cup International High School basketball championship scheduled Nov. 26-Dec. 3 at the CRC Kulim in Kedah, Malaysia. Pinoy Youth  Dreamers  16-under team  left yesterday  (Nov. 25)  to compete in the   fourth  MVP Cup  International High School basketball championship scheduled Nov. 26-Dec. 3 at the  CRC   Kulim  in Kedah, Malaysia.

To be  headed by PYD president-coach Beaujing  Acot, the Filipinos will battle  Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, India, Macau,  Malaysia and  Brunei in the week-long  competition being held for the fourth straight year.

“Our players  are ready. They have been training very hard for this  tournament,” said Acot.

Acot said the Filipinos are hoping  to improve their runner-up finish  behind host  Malaysia in   the  tournament  last year.

Acot also said  the whole PYD  family is thankful  for the support of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office  (PCSO),  headed by  Chairman Jose Jorge E. Corpuz   and  General Manager  Alexander F. Balutan.
   
The  members of the team are Angelo Aniñon  (Pasig Catholic College), Sandre   Banluta  (Siena- Taytay),  Jose  Andres  De Guia  (Pateros  Catholic School), Justin Mark  Ollesca  (Pasig Catholic ), Ernest Cesar Oliveros (Siena-Taytay), Jan Daniel Geronimo  (Pasig Catholic  College), Elchard Santos  (La  Immaculada  Concepcion), Angelo Masagca (San Sebastian College Recoletos), Charles Palaspas   (Pasig Catholic), Carlos Miguel Jacob (Pasig Catholic  College),  Dwayne Brent Fabroa  (St. Margaret), Allen Valeriano (St.  Lawrence Foundation ), Alexander Perez  (La Consolation College),  Gerben Baguhin (San Beda  College Rizal),  Rufino  Sablaon  lll  (Jesus the Loving Sheperd  Christian College), Kurt  Teaño  (St. Raphael Mary School), Gabriel Douglas Yim (De La Salle Antipolo), Aries Jay Paunil  (La Salle Antipolo), Paul  Raganit  (San Sebastian), and Kenneth  Gonzaga  (La Consolation).
   
Aside  from Acot  and   Pelipel,  the other  officials of  the team  are  Mario Fernandez, head coach; Vengie  Gabales, deputy coach; and  Lemerell  Julia, Edgar Valeriano  and Glenda Villaflor, assistant  coaches.
   
The PYD team is supported by Sonny  Barrios and  Bernie Atienza of  Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, Susan See of Regent,  Christian Cheng of Aqua Safe, Waiyip Chong of  Star Bread,  James Barraza of JAMAN,  Pax Pelipel of  PP Bus Line, Rain  or  Shine,  Roger Chan of Xpress Printing,  Chairman Joselito De la  Merced and  Josie Macapagal of  Barangay San Antonio and  Kelly Williams.
