HOPING to play better this time, defending champion College St. Benilde guns for the solo lead as it tackles Mapua in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

The title-retention campaign for the Lady Blazers proved to be a struggle despite the impressive performances of middle hitters Jeanette Panaga and Ranya Musa after two games.

St. Benilde needed to pull off come-from-behind wins, one against University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, 17-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-17, and over Letran, 25-27, 23-25, 25-22, 25-7, 15-12, to jump into a four-way logjam with last year’s runner-up San Sebastian, San Beda and Lyceum of the Philippines University.

Still, the Lady Blazers are tipped to win in their 1 p.m. clash with the 0-2 Lady Cardinals.

Former titlist Arellano University and Emilio Aguinaldo College try to enter the win column in the other women’s tussle at 11:30 a.m.
