AGENTS of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency on Tuesday arrested a suspected big-time female drug trafficker in Central Visayas during a buy-bust operation inside a condominium in Cebu City which resulted in the seizure of more than P32 million worth of shabu, PDEA Director General Isidro S. Lapeña announced yesterday.
The official identified the arrested suspect as Maria del Mar Diaz, a 28-year-old resident of the condominium along Horsehoe Drive, Banawa, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.
He said that members of the PDEA Regional Office 7 under Director Yogi Filemon Ruiz arrested the suspect around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday after she handed the drugs to an undercover officer and got the marked money.
Recovered from the suspect’s possession were six heat-sealed plastic sachets containing around 2.125 kilograms of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’ with a current market value of P32.8 million, one weighing scale and several plastic packs used for repacking shabu. She also yielded the marked money paid by the poseur.
Lapeña said that their investigation showed that Diaz could dispose around five kilograms of shabu per week in Cebu City. The official said that the suspect’s identity was revealed by several drug personalities arrested in previous anti-narcotics operations two months ago.
He said that a follow-up operation past 9 p.m. of the same day resulted in the arrest of Joypher Enriquez Tatoy, 28, and the confiscation of four packs of shabu containing some 200 worth of the drugs during the sting in Lower Gun Club, also in Banawa area. Tatoy was tagged as the supplier of Diaz.
Both suspects are now facing non-bailable charges for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs) and Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165 or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
