CAMP Malvar, Batangas -- In response to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s call for a six-month extension of his self-imposed deadline of three to six months to solve criminality and drug problem, the PNP here expanded its anti-illegal drugs campaign “Plan: Double Barrel” by launching “Double Barrel Alpha”.

Plan: Double Barrel Alpha will focus on the arrest and/or account of high-value target personalities involved in illegal drugs and progressing towards the clearing of all drug-affected barangays nationwide. Under Project Tokhang is another approach dubbed “Taphang” which comes from the Cebuano word “Tapok,” meaning “ipunin,” and “Hangyo,” which means “pakiusap”. It shall be extended to the visitations of PNP offices, schools and universities, government agencies, posh subdivisions, condominiums, business establishments, malls, jails and other workplaces to convince and persuade those in the group who are using and pushing illegal drugs to stop their activity and voluntarily subject themselves to authorities for processing.

Adhering to the directives of provincial police director Senior Supt. Leopoldo E. Cabanag to support the implementation of the campaign plan, the PPSC personnel, led by Supt. Paul Tangan Bometivo, company commander, launched Project Taphang at the Batangas Provincial Jail at 9 a.m. on November 7, 2016.

At least 100 inmates attended the education and awareness lecture wherein Project: Double Barrel, Double Barrel Alpha, ill-effects and penalties of using/pushing drugs were discussed. Moreover, they signed an oath of commitment as their support to the government’s fight against illegal drugs.
