Bantay Bayan member slain by RIT gunmen

A Bantay Bayan member facing drug charges was gunned down by motorcycle-riding suspects while manning his post in Mandaluyong City Monday night.

Senior Supt. Joaquin Alva, Mandaluyong police chief, identified the victim as Joel Abrenica, 35, of 548 Nueve de Pebrero St., Bgy. Addition Hills.
Alva said Abrenica was shot dead in front of an outpost in Bgy. Addition Hills at 8:20 p.m.
Police said the victim and fellow Bantay Bayan members Maria Flora Donato and Wilmer Duron were on their duty at the outpost when two unidentified MC-riding suspects arrived and shot the victim repeatedly in the body then fled.
The victim was rushed to Mandaluyong City Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival.
Alva said the victim was previously nabbed for charges of violation of Section 11 of RA 9165 or drug possession.
He said the fatality was included on the police drug watchlist.
