AT least 20 lawmakers led by Speaker Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez have reportedly flown to Las Vegas to root for Sen. Manny Pacquiao who is fighting Jessie Vargas tomorrow.
Well-placed sources said that Alvarez and House Majority Floor Leader and Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo “Rody” Fariñas are in the US gambling mecca to bolster congressmen’s support for Pacquiao, a colleague when he was Sarangani representative.
“I’ve learned from our friends that the Speaker and Cong. Farinas are now in Las Vegas to show support to Senator Pacquiao,” the source said.
Earlier, Pacquiao’s business manager, 1-PACMAN party-list Rep. Eric Pineda also went to the US.
“Marami silang pumunta doon. Baka hindi bababa ng 20,” the lawmaker source said.
Citizens Battle Against Corruption (Cibac) party-list Rep. Sherwin Tugna, who chairs the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms, said they wish Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire would win their separate fights.
“We wish Senator Manny and Nonito Donaire success. Basta ang mahalaga kahit ipinagpatuloy ni Senator Pacquiao ang kanyang boxing career hindi niya mapapabayaan ang kanyang trabaho sa Senado,” said Tugna.
Deputy Speaker and Marikina City Rep. Miro Quimbo said Pacquiao’s fight is another opportunity for the Filipinos to show to the world they are a proud race.
“We wish them luck. Dalawang beses maiwawagayway ang bandila natin sa labang ‘yan dahil kina Sen. Pacquiao at Nonito,” said Quimbo.
