CAMP Simeon Ola, Legaspi City -- At least 352 local officials have voluntarily surrendered under “Oplan Tokhang” and “Operation Double-Barrel” since the start of President Duterte’s anti-illegal drugs drive on July 1 to Oct. 24, 2016.
PNP Bicol director Chief Supt. Melvin Buenafe said that those who surrendered include six councilors, 346 barangay officials, including 47 barangay captains, 202 councilmen, 80 tanods, village treasurers and secretaries.
Buenafe said records on Bicol government officials allegedly involved in illegal drugs also included public school teachers, principals, two policemen and two members of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
The police regional chief added that more illegal drug suspects are expected to yield in the next six months.
Meanwhile, a source at the Department of the Interior and Local Government regional office said persons involved in illegal drugs will be disqualified during the next barangay elections.
