Ex-Laguna vice mayor killed in gun attack

A former vice mayor of Lumban, Laguna was killed while his driver was wounded in an ambush staged by two unidentified suspects armed with cal. .45 pistol and M-16 rifle on the national highway in Bgy. Lewin, Lumban, the other day.

Senior Insp. Reneto Tunacao, Lumban police chief, identified the fatality as Mario Ablao, alias “Kaka,” of Bgy. Bagong Silang, Lumban.
Police said the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body and head, killing him on the spot.
The victim’s driver, identified as Mark Joseph Cascasan, 29, of Pakil, Laguna, sustained a gunshot wound in the face.
Investigation revealed that the incident transpired at 5:45 p.m. while the victims on board a Hyundai car were on their way home when the suspects attacked them.
After the incident, the suspect escaped on board their car toward Lumban town proper.
Meanwhile, police are still determining the motive behind the incident and the identity of the owner of the car used by the suspects.
