THE municipal government of Noveleta, led by Mayor Dino Reyes Chua, thru the Municipal Health Office (MHO) under Dr. Maria Hilda C. Bucu, spearheaded a two-day rabies awareness program focusing on rabies prevention and control recently.
Participants included barangay executives, barangay health workers (BHWs) and other stakeholders from the academe and NGOs, who were provided knowledge on the epidemiology of rabies, categorization of animal bite, features of the Anti-Rabies Act and the Animal Welfare Act and in-depth understanding of responsible pet ownership.
The municipal health officer disclosed the plan on the establishment of an Animal Bite Treatment Center (ABTC) in the town. Also, during the open forum, strict implementation of the municipal ordinance on rabies, animal registration, provision of dog/animal pound and other animal-related issues and concerns were addressed. Other guests who joined the program were Vice Mayor Dionisio Torres, SB committee chair for health Coun. Leah Olidan-Balen, other SB members, ABC-Noveleta Emelito Lontoc and provincial veterinarian Dr. Dominador Borja.
