Batangas bgy chief gunned down

BATANGAS City -- A 40-year-old village chieftain was shot dead by unidentified suspects while standing at the dike near Calumpang Bridge on Panganiban St., Bgy. 3, here, Tuesday afternoon.

City police chief Supt. Barnard D. Dasugo identified the slain barangay official as Felix Bernal Garcia, alias Macmac, single, of Bgy. 2, this city.
   
A concerned citizen reported the incident to Batangas City Police Station thru cellphone call at 2:15 p.m.
   
Investigators, led by SPO1 Doni Irvin Casayuran, together with Chief Insp. Jose Naparato, DCOP, proceeded at the said place and conducted an investigation.
   
Based on statements gathered by SPO1 Casayuran  and  PO3 Roderick Gardiola Manalo from the residents near the crime scene, at about 2 p.m. Tuesday, the victim was standing beside the Calumpang dike on Panganiban Street when shot once at close range by an unidentified suspect, who immediately fled.
   
A Scene of the Crime Operatives team (SOCO) from the BPCLO, led by Senior Insp. Pete Malinao, recovered at the scene a Colt cal. .45 with serial number 856147, a magazine and six live ammunition for the gun.
   
A dragnet operation was conducted by the police for possible identification and arrest of the suspect.
   
The body of the victim was brought to Holy Saint John Funeral Homes in Bgy. Kumintang Ilaya, Batangas City, for autopsy.
