AFP recovers heavy firearms, ammo, bombs in Basilan

GOVERNMENT forces recovered high-powered firearms, ammunition and explosives during their patrol operations the other day in Tuburan, Basilan.

Maj. Filemon Tan Jr., spokesman of Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)-Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), said the heavy firearms recovered include an M14 rifle with right magazine and 39 ammunition; an M16 rifle with scope, two long magazines, eight short magazines and 88 ammunition; four rifle grenades, a binocular, two bandoliers, a pair combat boots and a hammock.

Tan said elements of the 7th Scout Ranger Company (SRC), 14th SRC and 3rd SRC were conducting patrol operation in Bgy. Katipunan, Tuburan, Basilan, when they saw a suspicious-looking man roaming in the area.

Upon seeing the team, the suspect ran away and proceeded to one of the houses in the area as if alerting the occupants.

The military troops conducted a pursuit operation and later searched the vicinity where the different firearms, explosives and ammunition were recovered.

The recovered items were turned over to military custody.
