PHILIPPINE Constitution Association (Philconsa) president Martin Romualdez yesterday expressed condolences to the loved ones of the late former Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago who passed away Thursday morning after battling lung cancer at the age of 71.
“Sen. Santiago is a beacon of wisdom and intelligence of our country that made Philippine politics more colorful and lively,” said Romualdez, president of Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD).
“She will be remembered for leading an honorable life, by championing good governance during her career in public service.”
“I wish that our condolences bring consolation, strength and peace to the family of Sen. Santiago during this painful time. I know that no words can remove the sorrow in this very sad moment and we weep the agony of such loss. May God give her eternal rest,” Romualdez, a former House Independent Minority Bloc and ex-Leyte three-term congressman, added.
Leyte Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez, wife of Martin Romualdez, said Santiago “is a woman of strength and exemplary deeds.”
“Her advocacy for good governance inspired many. Her passing is a great loss to the country and to all the people who know her,” said Romualdez.
“We join our friends with thoughts of comfort in extending our sincere sympathies to her (Santiago) loved ones during this very painful time. She will be included in our prayers,” said Yedda Romualdez.
