FIVE houses collapsed after a strong current eroded the riprap of a river dike project maintained by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) due to continuous heavy rains in Marikina City yesterday morning.
The Marikina City Public Information Office ((PIO) said 15 individuals were temporarily given shelter at the Marikina Hotel.
Reports said the incident happened at 3 a.m. when the Nangka River control dike (riprap) on Mirasol Street suddenly collapsed.
According to Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro, 15 individuals were affected by the soil erosion.
Teodoro promised to shoulder the food expenses of the affected families.
“Danger zone na ang area. These are titled areas. These are not informal settlers. Nasa jurisdiction ito ng DPWH,” he said.
