BEDA reasserted its mastery of Arellano University, 91-81, to keep its hopes alive of clinching an 11th consecutive top seeding in the Final Four yesterday in the NCAA seniors basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

Javee Mocon and Davon Potts delivered the key baskets in the payoff period as the Red Lions quelled repeated Chiefs’ uprisings to tie their victims for the league’s best record at the end of eliminations at 14-4.

San Beda and Arellano, both already assured of twice-to-beat incentives in the semis, will meet again on Tuesday at the San Juan venue for the No. 1 and 2 rankings.

“It’s not a good ruling,” rued Lions coach Jamike Jarin regarding the need for another game to determine the semifinal  seedings. “Pero we can’t do anything about it because rules are rules that to be followed. But we will still play our hearts out. We will play our best always.”

Mapua, meanwhile, survived a Bright Akhuetie-less University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, 67-63, to clinch the No. 3 seed in the playoffs.

Earlier, College of Saint Benilde saved the best for last, as the Blazers avoided to become first team to go 0-18 with a 65-61 squeaker over Lyceum of the Philippines University.

St. Benilde may have set the record for the most number of losses in one season with 17, but coach Gabby Velasco simply kept his faith to steer his team to the elusive victory.
