TWO known guns-for-hire, who shot and killed a suspected drug personality in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan, early morning yesterday, were gunned down by pursuing policemen in a shootout, Pangasinan police director Senior Supt. Ronald O. Lee said.

“We have information that the slain suspects were notorious guns-for-hire operating in Pangasinan and nearby provinces who were ordered by a local drug syndicate to kill another suspected drug personality in the province,” he said.

The Pangasinan police director said they have subjected the weapons recovered from the slain suspects to a ballistics examination to determine if they could have been used in previous cases of ‘deaths under inquiry’ in the province. He added that initially, cellphones recovered from the two suspects contained their exchanges of messages regarding their assassination targets and other illegal activities.

The official said they are looking into the links of the slain suspects to a number of incidents in the province in which suspected drug dealers and users have been killed by motorcycle-riding assassins since last July 1.

Police have expressed belief that many known drug dealers have been ordered killed by their syndicates afraid they would squeal on them after they surrendered under police’s Oplan: Tokhang.
