P’sinan bgy chief into drugs killed in shootout

SAN Carlos City, Pangasinan -- The chairman of  Bgy. Tayambani, here, was killed during a police operation yesterday morning.

Supt. Ferdinand de Asis, Police Community Relations chief of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, said Barangay Captain Lamberto C. Villa was tagged as the leader of the Dawis Drug Group.
    
Initial investigation disclosed that at 4:50 a.m. yesterday, joint elements from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 1, San Carlos City Police Station, Pangasinan Police Provincial Office’s Intelligence Branch, Provincial Anti-Illegal Drug Enforcement Special Operationg Group (PAIDSOTG) and SWAT team went to the residence of Villa to serve a search warrant.
 
“The suspect resisted and fought it out, forcing the operating teams to shoot back, hitting him fatally. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival,” said De Asis.
    
A few days ago, Isla Barangay Captain Noel Cruz survived an ambush perpetrated by an unidentified gunmen. The PNP is still conducting an investigation into the incident.
