A teenager reportedly a relative of TV host- actor Bobby Yan was nabbed by authorities for possession of marijuana leaves while riding in an Uber taxi in Mandaluyong City Monday.
Reports gathered at the Mandaluyong police identified the teenager as Matthew Yvar Yan, 19, single, of Eisenhower St., North Greenhills, San Juan City.
Eastern Police District (EPD) director Chief Supt. Romulo Sapitula confirmed that the teenager is a nephew of TV host-actor Bobby Yan.
Investigation conducted by PO2 Krizaldy Reglo, of the Mandaluyong police, showed the teenager was nabbed at 7 a.m. on EDSA southbound near MRT Ortigas, Bgy. Wack-Wack.
Prior to the arrest, PO1 Archie Cabungal and PO1 Mark Lloyd del Rosario, of the EPD-District Public Safety Batallion, were in the area for police visibility operation.
Police said an Uber taxi driver, identified as Joselito Corcuera, sought the lawmen’s assistance, saying his passenger, who was seated beside him, was carrying illegal drugs.
Police said that when the teenager was frisked, the police officers allegedly recovered suspected dried marijuana leaves and a glass tube pipe.
The teenager was immediately arrested and brought to the Mandalu-yong Police Station.
According to Mandaluyong police, relatives of the teenager went to the police station yesterday morning.
“Confirmed at positive na pamangkin ni Bobby Yan. Sections 11 and 12 ang kaso,” Sapitula said in his text message.
Sapitula said charges of violation of Sections 11 and 12 of RA 9165 was filed yesterday before the Mandaluyong City Prosecutor’s Office.
