TALISAY, Batangas -- A 74-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified suspects while sleeping in his house in Bgy. Tumaway, here, Friday night.

Acting police head Chief Insp. Norman Cas-Oy identified the victim as Florante Austria Gonzales, married, of Bgy. Tumaway, this town.
Police were conducting a checkpoint at 8 p.m. in Bgy. Banga when they were informed by a local resident that a shooting incident occurred in Bgy. Tumaway.
A police team immediately responded.
According to Clouie Abegail Gonzales, daughter of the victim, her father was sleeping at the extension terrace of their house when she heard several gunshots outside.
When she switched on the light, she saw one of the two suspects fleeing towards the dark grassy field before she saw her father dead in a pool of his own blood.
A Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) team recovered eight empty shells and two slugs for cal. .45 pistols at the scene.
