--- Suspected Cebu City gunrunner Celso Brigoli Monleon, 59, who was caught inside the PPA terminal in Bgy. Bapor, Masbate City, transporting 20 assorted cal. .45 handgun models, is facing multiple charges of illegal possession of firearms and violation of local ordinance before the Masbate City Prosecutor’s Office.
Police reported on Thursday that PNP Bicol director Chief Supt. Melvin Buenafe personally investigated Monleon upon arrival at Pio Duran port in Albay where the latter confessed that he was only a courier of the handguns from Cebu City to San Pascual.
Monleon revealed that the classy-made cal. .45 pistols are sold at P6,000 each where he gets P400 in commission.
Buenafe said the seized Cebu-made handguns are not ordinary made “paltik” handguns but are quality-class complete with markings of government models similar to known handgun trademarks in the US like the “Remington Rand”.
“Hindi na ito iyong mga ordinar-yong “paltik.” Ito na iyong matataas na kalibreng baril na ginagawa nila,” he said
Monleon’s gun cache was detected by a metal detector from his pieces of luggage, prompting a joint team of the Masbate PPO, Army’s 9th Infantry Battalion and the Masbate City PNP, led by Supt. Ruben Padua Jr., to arrest him.
