AN off-duty policeman was seriously wounded when shot by one of three suspected gunmen, including an 18-year-old girl, who robbed a lodge in Mandaue City on Wednesday, police said yesterday.

Senior Supt. Roberto Alanas, Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) director, identified the victim as PO1 Erwin Talisik Pepito, assigned at Borbon Police Station, who was rushed to the hospital due to gunshot wounds in the neck, chest and abdomen.

The three suspects, identified as Mark RJ Tundag Tampusa, 25, Mary Ann Nudalo Pareja, 18, both of East Binabag Tayud, Consolacion Cebu, and Rex Braga, alias Bonjing, 30, of Tayud Liloan, Cebu, were nabbed during a follow-up operation in Consolacion and Liloan, North Cebu.

Alanas said that prior to the incident, PO1 Pepito checked in at Hidden Lodge on B.B. Cabahug St., Bgy. Guizo, to take a rest after work at 2:30 a.m.

While about to enter the establishment, he saw a man pointing a gun at the cashier, identified as Ethel Baricuatro, 29, of Carmen, Cebu.
PO1 Pepito identified himself as a policeman and quickly grappled for the gun of the suspect, but the other suspect shot him repeatedly in the body before they fled on a motorcycle.
Based on investigation, the suspects entered the lodge posing as customers before they announced a holdup. They grabbed the service firearm of Jeffrey Guiniza, a cal. .38 revolver, and P4,500 from the counter and the cellphone of Baricuatro.
According to Alanas, his men immediately conducted a follow-up operation and arrested the three suspects in Consolacion and Liloan.
Police recovered the motorcycle of the suspects, two cal. .38 revolvers with live ammunition, eight cellular phones, a hand grenade and assorted drug paraphernalia.
