MILITARY personnel will join policemen in manning checkpoints in the streets of Metro Manila following the declaration of President Rodrigo Duterte of a national emergency on account of lawless violence in Mindanao.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Chief Supt. Oscar Albayalde called on the public to remain calm when they see soldiers manning checkpoints with policemen.
More than 100 personnel from the military will join the police forces at checkpoints in Metro Manila to prevent attacks similar to the Davao bombing which left at least 14 dead and injured 67.
Albayalde has ordered all district directors to set up checkpoints in all vital installations, malls, churches, MRT and LRT stations and all places of convergence following the Davao City bombing last Friday night.
“Hindi dapat mag-alala. Huwag mag-panic. The PNP is on top of the situation. However we need to be vigilant,” said Albayalde as he maintained that peace and order is their priority.
He also warned prank callers on 911, the nationwide emergency response number, as the PNP can track them down with the help of the telecommunication companies.
