THE Eastern Police District (EPD) conferred plaques of appreciation on the mayors of Metro East, People’s Tonight/People’s Journal Editor-in-Chief Augusto Villanueva, PJ/PT reporter Arlene Rivera, members of the judiciary, private individuals and support groups, who contributed significantly in the plans and programs of the EPD.
During the ceremony, PO1 Tokhang was launched as official mascot of the EPD.
EPD director Senior Supt. Sapitula said he will continue their campaign against illegal drugs in eastern part of Metro Manila which comprises the cities of Pasig, Mandaluyong, San Juan and Marikina, and to maintain peace and order in these areas.
Meanwhile, National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) director Chief Supt. Oscar Albayalde, who was guest of honor and speaker at the 42nd Eastern Police Distict (EPD) founding anniversary and 115th Police Service Anniversary celebrations at the Tanghalang Pasigueño in Pasig City, yesterday said that drug lords hired their own hitmen or gun-for-hire groups to neutralize pushers in order not to uncover their names in the series of killings.
According to NCRPO .
However, Albayalde said they are not discounting the fact that even law enforcers themselves and vigilantes were involved in the death of suspected pushers.
“’Yung basic na nakikita natin sa killings or mga death under inquiry kung saan lumalabas mga drug pusher na nagha-hire din silang hitman or gun-for- hire para ma-neutralize mga street pushers or second- level pushers nila para hindi lumabas ’yung kanilang mga name,” Albayalde told reporters during the ceremony.
The NCRPO chief also said that he is satisfied with the performance of EPD under the leadership of Chief Supt. Romulo Sapitula.
“Maganda ang performance ng EPD, even other districts in the whole Metro Manila, malaki ibinaba ng monthly and weekly crime rate, if we compare this mula 2014 hanggang this time. With the implementation of Oplan Tokhang and Project: Double Barrel, bumaba ng mga 76 percent ang index crime or crime volume sa whole Metro Manila,” Albayalde said.
The Marikina Police Station, on the other hand, was awarded as Best Police Station in EPD for its notable accomplishments such as crime solution efficiency, number of most wanted persons (MWP) arrested, arrest of top 10 drug personalities, conduct of anti-illegal drug operations and confiscation of illegal drugs and firearms.
