FIVE Quezon City Police District (QCPD) policemen were relieved from their posts yesterday after they were found in cahoots with another cop in an extortion activity.
QCPD acting director Senior Supt. Guillermo Eleazar said that criminal and administrative charges were also filed against Senior Insp. Benjamin Mayor, SPO3 Archimedes Marzan, PO2 Alex Chocowen and PO1 Jeron de Dios, all from Masambong Police Station.
The case stemmed from the arrest of their colleague PO1 Michael Gragasin who was arrested earlier in an entrapment after demanding P100,000 from the wife of a prisoner who was arrested for illegal drugs. Gragasin revealed the participation of his four other colleagues. He was also relieved.
Eleazar said that all five Masambong cops were transferred to the District Headquarters Support Unit in Camp Karingal.
The administrative charges of grave misconduct against the five were referred to the District’s Internal Affairs Service.
Records show that Gragasin was arrested by operatives of the District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) headed by Supt. Rogarth Campo in an entrapment last August 20 receiving the extort money from Josephine Pineda whose live-in partner Zaldy Roda, a tricycle driver, was nabbed for possession of illegal drugs.
Eleazar said he will not tolerate rogues in his command as he will not hesitate to take drastic and immediate action once they are pinpointed.
“It is good that the incident was reported immediately and the complaint promptly filed. It will help us cleanse our ranks of scalawags. Tuloy po ang aming ginagawang cleansing hangga’t hindi naaalis sa aming hanay ang mga pulis na sumisira sa imahe ng organisasyon. Makatitiyak po kayo sa agarang aksyon namin laban sa kanila,” the QCPD top cop said.
