VOWING to continue the massive government crackdown to suppress crime and put the drug situation under control, President Duterte and Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald ‘Bato’ M. de la Rosa called on the 170,000-strong police force to emulate the PNP’s role models for honesty and dedication to duty.

“The fight against drugs will continue and be unrelenting,” the President said as he warned shabu manufacturers and traffickers to be extra careful. “I will not allow anybody to destroy my country, the next generation.” He said that in a nation where there are an estimated 3 million drug addicts whose brain shrinks after repeated use of the powerful stimulant, there’s a big need to address the problem and immediately.

President Duterte, Gen. de la Rosa and Interior Undersecretary Catalino S. Cuy distributed plaques of appreciation to the outstanding police officers and units during the 115th Police Service Anniversary at Camp Crame.

Gen. de la Rosa cited the PNP accomplishments since he took over as its chief last July 1. He said that during the period, they conducted a total of 306,991 house visitations as they implemented Oplan: Tokhang with police knocking on the doors suspected drug users and pushers and pleading to them to surrender and mend their ways.

As a result, he said, 518,310 users and 45,799 pushers or a total of 564,109 drug personalities surrendered to authorities. He added that a total of 7,830 suspects were arrested while 752 have been killed.
