BATANGAS City -- A member of the Batangas City Police Station was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-riding gunmen while riding a passenger jeepney on Gov. Carpio Road, Bgy. Kumintang Ibaba, here, Thursday morning.
City police commander Supt. Barnard Danie Dasugo identified the slain cop as Nestor Dimaano, 49, married, of Barangay Tinga Itaas, this city. Injured was Mekeilah Roma Garcia Agustin, 17, single, student of Batangas State University and a resident of Bgy. Lodlod, Lipa City.
The incident was reported to the police station by a concerned citizen.
Investigators, led by Insp. Ferdinand Laureta, said that at 11 a.m. Thursday, the victim was seated beside the driver, identified as Edgardo Briones Caraan, of a passenger jeepney (DXS-133) registered to Ramon Medrano.
When the jeepney stopped, the two unidentified suspects on board a black motorcycle and wearing helmets and black jackets approached the victim. The back rider then shot him once in the head.
The suspects quickly fled towards Bgy. Kumintang Ilaya, witnesses said.
On the other hand, Agustin, who was seated at the back of the driver, was hit by the same bullet in the right side of her face.
Both victims were rushed to Batangas Medical Center but the cop was declared dead on arrival by attending physician Dr. Jonas Panganiban.
A team from the Batangas Provincial Crime Laboratory, led by Chief Insp. Mylene Addag, along with the local police, found an empty shell for cal. .45.
The body of Dimaano, who is listed in the illegal drug watchlist of the police, now lies at San Fernando Funeral Homes, said Dasugo.
