“I AM no drug coddler.”
This was the remark of Quezon City Mayor Herbert ‘Bistek’ Bautista as he broke his silence over his reported links to the drug controversy.
Bautista stressed there is no truth to allegations that he is a drug protector.
“I’m not involved and will never be involved with anyone who transacts illegally in this country,” the Quezon City mayor said.
He said that several persons may only have unjustly branded him as a drug coddler only because two former Quezon City Police District (QCPD) chiefs were linked by President Rodrigo Duterte to the drug menace in the country.
Duterte promised to name more names of so-called narco-politicians including narco-cops, prosecutors and judges in the near future.
Earlier, Duterte named former QCPD chief Superintendents Joel Pagdilao and Vicente Loot among five alleged police drug protectors.
On Monday, 72 QCPD personnel were also relieved from their posts over alleged engagement with the narcotics trade and other illegal activities.
Also, Bautista mentioned that he is proud of his brother, Quezon City Councillor Hero Bautista, for seeking medical intervention after admitting on Monday that he is a drug user.
He has yet to speak with his younger brother who was already admitted to a rehabilitation center and previously cleared the mayor of links with drug syndicates.
“My brother, as the mayor, never will be a drug protector,” he said.
