TRAFFIC enforcers tasked to curb illegal drag racing on Macapagal Avenue have been armed with nightsticks and batons for self-defense.
The arming of traffic officers came amid the mauling of an enforcer of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority officer by a group of drag racers he accosted.
MMDA Traffic Discipline Czar Yves Gonzalez said the nightstick is just a temporary solution to the risks faced by the traffic personnel when out on the streets.
The MMDA also deployed additional personnel on the Macapagal Avenue and installed more close circuit television cameras to curb drag racing which usually takes place in the wee hours of the morning. Alvin Murcia
