THE dry-run of the motorcycle lane scheme on EDSA is over and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority will start imposing fines on violators today.
MMDA traffic enforcers will issue traffic violation receipts with the corresponding P500 fine to erring motorcyclists.
MMDA assistant general manager for planning Emerson Carlos said the successful one week-dry run resulted in the apprehension of at least 3,781 violators who were only made to attend a 15-minute road safety seminar.
Carlos said no motorcycle-related incidents occurred on EDSA during the dry-run.
MMDA bike-riding unit dubbed “Green Tank” will also go after riders wearing slippers, those with no helmets and proper safety gear, motorcycles with defective headlights and signal lights, and drivers using mobile phones while driving.
The enforcers will flag down overloaded motorcycle or those with more than one back-rider.
The agency also reminded riders to always keep the motorcycle headlights on even during the daylight. Violators of this policy wil be fined P150.
The MMDA designated the fourth lane of EDSA as motorcycle lane although other type of vehicles can also use the lane.
