Manila Police District (MPD) director Chief Supt. Alex Gutierrez yesterday ordered a probe into the death of a polio victim who, according to initial reports, committed ‘harakiri’ in front of his parents’ tomb inside the Manila North Cemetery.
The body of victim Amando Capco, 52, of Dayang-Dayang St., Maharlika Subdivision, Taytay, Rizal, bore a single deep stab wound in the stomach when found at around 6 a.m. yesterday inside a mausoleum along 1st St., at the North Cemetery, located in Blumentritt, Sta. Cruz, Manila.
Homicide investigators SPO2 Virgo Villareal and PO3 Bernardo Cayabyab of the MPD-Homicide Section said they found beside Capco a jungle knife which caused his wound and the crutches he had been using.
Children playing in the area were the first to find Capco’s body. They immediately reported the matter to the caretaker of the adjacent mausoleum identified as Dick Manahan who, in turn, reported to the police.
Initial information gathered by the police said that based on witnesses’ accounts, the victim paid his departed parents a visit each time he had a problem, and sometimes even stayed there for a few days.
Gutierrez ordered an investigation to determine if there was foul play in Capco’s death.
