A brother of action star Robin Padilla was charged before the Quezon City Metropolitan Trial Court for allegedly threatening to shoot a man and lob a grenade at his house nine years ago.
Charged with grave threats was Roy “Royette” Carino Padilla, a former actor, of Maple St., West Fairview, QC.
The filing of the case was based on the recommendation of Assistant City Prosecutor Rafael Villordon who found probable cause to indict the respondent in court.
The case stemmed from the complaints of Johnny Solevilla who claimed that the incident took place on Feb. 12, 2003 when the respondent went to his house to meet his daughter Yvonne.
The former actor reportedly threatened to shoot the complainant and lob a grenade at his house while shouting invectives on him which forced Solevilla to call the Baler Police Station (now Masambong) to have the incident recorded.
The complainant claimed Padilla ignored the police invitation to explain his side.
A few hours later, Solevilla was surprised when Padilla returned to his house with reporters in tow.
Solevilla filed the complaint as counter-charges on the charges of illegal discharge of firearms and oral defamation filed against him by Padilla.
Padilla, who was the first to file the complaints against the complainant, has a different version of the incident, saying he arrived at Solevilla’s house at 1 a.m. when he heard the other man cursing him in Filipino as he was pressing the doorbell to ask for Yvonne.
The respondent allegedly later heard a gunshot, prompting him to leave to seek help from police and the media.
In his three-page resolution, Villordon ruled that Padilla’s supposed statement that he would lob a grenade and shoot Solevilla amount to grave threats.
“The said threats amount to a crime of arson and murder, and the threats were not subject to a condition,” Villordon added in his resolution.
In the same resolution, Villordon dismissed the cases filed by Padilla against Solevilla for lack of probable cause and insufficiency of evidence.
He also junked the cases of alarm and scandal and oral defamation against Padilla due to lack of probable cause.
But Villordon said that “bail is not necessary unless required by the court.”
