Infant charred in Manila fire

A six-month-old baby boy was burned beyond recognition after being left alone by his mother inside their home in San Andres, Manila.

It was learned from fireman SFO2 John Jose Jalicue that the mother, identified only as Elena, remained in shock after learning that her baby, identified as Samuel Yaniz, was found burned to death by responding firefighters.

In his report, FO2 Marlon Perez of the Manila Fire Department (MFD) said the fire occurred at 10:18 a.m. yesterday and reached fourth alarm.  It was contained at 11:30 a.m.

Jalicue said the fire was caused by an unattended stove in the home of the victim located along Granate Street.

Elena, she said, stepped out of the house and was surprised to find their house burning upon return.

Reportedly, Elena managed to save her two elder children but failed to return inside the house when the fire suddenly became big.

Her husband Crisanto, meanwhile, was at work when the fire struck.

The damage to property is yet to be approximated by the police.               Itchie G. Cabayan
