Floating library in Manila ’til March

STUDENTS, teachers and parents were invited yesterday by Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim to visit the floating library, which will be open until next month.

Lim made the invitation as he welcomed the officers and crew of the floating library MV Logos Hope, which is operated by a non-profit organization based in Germany which operates ships, including the MV Doulos, that sails around the world and known for their floating book fairs.

The mayor said the ship’s presence in the country every year offers an opportunity for book lovers to buy books at a very cheap price.

“It’s a good opportunity for the Filipino students that this floating library comes here and sells quality books.  They will have the chance to gain more knowledge by reading books.  Marami tayong matututunan sa libro. Alam naman natin na importante ang edukasyon because education is the key to poverty alleviation,” Lim said.

The mayor also said that visiting the floating library will also offer a chance to tour the ship.

“Sa mga mag-aaral, mamili kayo dito kasama ang mga magulang ninyo, hindi kayo magsisisi dahil marami kayong pagpipilian at mura ang paninda nila dito,” Lim further stated.

In gracing the official opening of the said floating library, Lim, joined by city hall officials, congratulated the ship’s captain, Pat Tracy, and executive director Gian Walser, for visiting Philippine ports and bringing goodwill to the people of the communities they visit.

Docked at Pier 15, Berth 5 of Manila South Harbor, the library will be open to the public up to March 13.
