HPG nabs 3 for taxi theft

AGENTS of the National Capital Region Highway Patrol Unit on Wednesday entrapped three men in connection with the theft of a taxi in Pasay City, Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group director Chief Supt. Leonardo A. Espina announced yesterday.

Espina said the operation stemmed from the complaint of Eduardo Quintos Jr., the owner of the EMQ Taxi (TTX-225), that his driver failed to return the taxi apart from failing to remit its boundary starting last Saturday.

Espina said the NCRHPU under Senior Supt. Felixberto Castillo, in cooperation with Quintos, arrested the suspects identified as taxi driver Jessie Mejulio, Mario Flores and Renerio Rioja, in a sting along the McDonalds outlet in Nichols Road, Pasay City, at 4 p.m. last Wednesday.

It turned out that Mejulio failed to return the taxi and remit its boundary for five days starting last Saturday. On Wednesday, Mejulio informed Quintos that he had pawned the taxi to a certain Rodolfo Viray for P40,000 and said that the taxi operator could only get back his vehicle if he will redeem it from Viray.

The information furnished by Quintos resulted in the arrest of the suspects.

Charges of violation of the anti-carnapping law are being readied against the suspects, said Castillo.
