NBI raids software firm

Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) swooped down on a software company allegedly selling devices used for sending “text spams” to subscribers.

Raided was the office of Busybee Textblast following the complaint of telecommunications giant Globe Telecoms Inc. that it was involved in a scheme they called “text blasts.”

The text blast involves sending millions of text messages to mobile subscribers just clicking “send” on a mobile device.

“They were not an authorized telecommunications company and does not have an authority to act as a value-added services provider pero napatunayan through surveillance and test-buy na they are actually selling equipment and apparatus for purposes of conducting text blast according to the complainant,” NBI-Technical Investigation Division (NBI-TID) chief lawyer Palmer Mallari said.

The raid happened at V.V. Soliven Complex, along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), Greenhills, San Juan, at around 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Seized during the raid were illegal GSM devices and copies of software. The owners are facing charges of violation of Republic Act 8484 or Access Devices Regulation Act of 1998.
