QC dad’s hubby freed on bail

THE husband of Quezon City 4th district Councilor Jessica Daza was released from detention after posting bail at the QC Regional Trial Court following the filing of homicide charges against him.

Bulacan Provincial Board Member Romeo Allan Robes was temporarily freed after he posted P40,000 bail Monday afternoon at the sala of QCRTC Branch 218 Judge Luis Zenon Maceren.

Chief Insp. Rodelio Marcelo of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (QCPD-CIDU) said the Bulacan official was released at around 5 p.m. Monday.

Robes was detained at the CIDU detention cell early Saturday morning after he voluntarily surrendered to the police after allegedly shooting and killing Noel Orate Sr. Friday night.

Orate was reportedly the former live-in partner of Robes’ mother-in-law, former Rep. Nanette Castelo-Daza, for 12 years and had separated ways last month. Jessica, Robes’ wife, is a daughter of the former solon.

Investigation showed that the shooting incident took place at the residence of the Dazas at 51 Maningning St., Teacher’s Village, QC, on the night of Feb. 10.

Meanwhile, Robes and the Dazas claimed that the incident was an act of self-defense as the victim allegedly threatened them.

The heirs of Orate, on the other hand, denied the claim of the Dazas and the accused saying that the gunshot wounds sustained by the victim were in his back that indicate of treachery which qualifies the act to murder.

The Orates through their lawyer Eduardo Bringas said that they will seek for a reinvestigation of the case.

The victim’s namesake, Noel Jr., earlier appealed to the National Bureau of Investigation to conduct its own independent probe of his father’s death.

The Orates are insisting that their dad’s killing is murder while the Dazas maintain it was self-defense.
