HUMANITARIAN aid from the Russian Federation yesterday arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. The assistance is survivors of the recent major earthquake in Negros Oriental and other calamities.
The Russian team flew in with 60 tons of relief goods composed of tents, blankets, sugar and preserved fish and meat on board Ilyusin 76 aircraft flight SUM-9705, while another batch of aid is set to arrive on February 15 via the same airplane.
Representatives from the Ministry of Russian Federation for Civil Defense, Russian Embassy, Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Office of Vice President Jejomar Binay met the humanitarian mission group at the ramp of the premier airport.
In a statement issued by Binay through his Chief of Staff Benjamin Martinez, Jr., he thanked the Russian government for extending the aid to the calamity victims.
“The Philippine government is grateful to the Russian Federation for the assistance they extended and I am honored that it had tapped my office to assist in the distribution of the relief goods to our less fortunate countrymen,” Martinez said in behalf of Binay.
Earlier, Binay sent 584 boxes of water to the provincial government of Negros Oriental and the local government of Guihulngan. Fifty sacks of rice were also distributed in Guihulngan and another 15 sacks in Jimalalud. Willy Balasa
