PASSENGERS of the Metro Rail Transit system were stranded yesterday morning after the train developed engine trouble at the Guadalupe station in Makati City.
The glitch forced MRT authorities to implement half-line operations for more than two hours on the northern portion of the line along Epifanio De Los Santos Avenue.
Light Rail Transit Authority spokesperson Hernando Cabrera said the MRT 3’s operation from Taft Avenue to Shaw Boulevard, both north and south-bound, were stalled at 6:30 a.m.
Cabrera said a minor problem occurred on the rail affecting the safety protocol prompting them to stop train operations between Guadalupe, Makati and Taft, Pasay City.
Engineers and technicians managed to solve the problem before 9 a.m. prompting authorities to immediately resume full operation.
It was not the first time that technical problems affect the MRT3’s operation. In October a power failure caused the collapse of the automatic signalling system forcing authorities to shut down operations for safety reasons. Alvin Murcia
