MORE safety measures will be implemented along the Kaytikling Junction in Taytay, Rizal, to prevent the occurrence of more deadly road crashes similar to the one that killed five people including an 11-year-old boy and injured 13 others last January 12.
During a stakeholders’ forum aimed at transforming Kaytikling Junction into a save travel zone organized by Regional Highway Patrol Unit 4-A chief Senior Supt. Arnel Escobal and Rizal Provincial Highway Patrol Team head Chief Inspector Mark Joseph Laygo, officials and other concerned stakeholders agreed to implement the following doable measures in the area.
Implementing a one-way uphill entry and/or truck ban along Cabrera Road from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m.; putting up of traffic safety signages; detail of uniformed traffic enforcers who will strictly enforce traffic rules and regulations; removal of the concrete barriers that cause heavy traffic during rush hour; setting up of temporary rotunda using said barriers at Ortigas Extension and Manila East Road junction for free flow of traffic; and removal of illegal vendors and terminals for public utility buses, jeeps and AUVs.
In a report to PNP-HPG director, Chief Supt. Leonardo A. Espina, Escobal said other long-term measures which include the construction of a permanent rotunda and pedestrian overpass in the area were also discussed during the forum attended by Taytay Mayor Joric Gacula, Rizal-Department of Public Works and Highways Engineer Elmo Concina and Land Transportation Office 4-A officers Sofronio Alvis Sr. and Christ Batoon and Supt.
