THE third suspect in the recent robbery of a laundry shop in Manila which left its Chinese owner dead and his wife and child’s nanny seriously wounded has voluntarily surrendered.
Richard Oja, 22, told reporters upon arriving at the Manila Police District (MPD) headquarters that he surrendered to clear his name of allegations that he was among those who robbed the Bulls Eye Laundry shop located at Yakal Street in Tondo, Manila, and killed its owner Calvin Chioa, 35.
SPO4 Virgo Villareal, MPD-Homicide Section investigator, said Oja was fetched by SPO2 Adolfo Agustin and PO2 Christopher Cruz, both assigned at the MPD Police Station 2 under Supt. Jemar Modequillo, from Naga City where he was traced following the incident.
Villareal said Oja will be presented to the witnesses who are expected to either confirm or deny his participation in the said crime.
The two other suspects, identified as George Padios, alias ‘Toto’, 28, of 151 Sanciangco St., Malabon City, and Noel Nuylan, 41, an aircon technician staying in at the Kenrick Aurelio Repair Shop located at 1181 Padre Algue St., Tondo, Manila were positively identified by the household members as the ones who robbed the laundry shop at around 4 a.m. last January 31 that left Calvin dead and his wife Charlene, 34, and their children’s nanny Maricel Lebrando,25, both seriously wounded.
Oja said he heard over the news that he is being hunted down, prompting him to report to the nearest police station in Naga.
According to Oja, he used to serve as a driver for the Chioa family but took a leave last December. He said he is set to start working again this month but his live-in partner got pregnant.
While he denied any involvement in the crime, Oja admitted knowing Padios since they worked together for the Chioas but denied knowing Nuylan. Itchie G. Cabayan
