ALTHOUGH dengue cases in Quezon City have significantly dropped by almost 50 percent, the city health department is now closely monitoring three barangays that got the highest recorded cases of the deadly illness.
City health officer Antonieta Inumerable said from Jan. 1 to 21 this year, they recorded 236 dengue cases with a single death compared to 402 of the same period last year with three deaths.
However, the city health office is alarmed by the numbers of the illness in Barangays Tandang Sora with 13 cases, San Bartolome with 10 and Manresa with 10 each for this month. QC has 142 barangays.
Inumerable said that for years, this is the first time that Barangay Manresa was included among those with high dengue cases.
The single fatality was recorded in Barangay Paraiso.
Saying the disease now exists year-round, Inumerable called on the public to always stay alert against the disease.
“Dengue cases may be on a decline but the public must not be complacent,” she said.
The health officer said the city government mobilized all barangays in the city to actively participate in the massive dengue prevention and control program aimed to at least reduce if not totally eliminate the disease. Joel dela Torre
