Shooting victim becomes murder suspect

A BARANGAY captain earlier reported as shooting victim in Manila turned out to be a suspect after records showed he is wanted for murder in Cagayan province.

Thus, Roldan de Asis, 45, a barangay captain from Centro North West, Solana, is now being closely guarded by Cagayan police at the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center where he is presently recuperating from a gunshot wound he sustained after being shot by a province mate along Claro M. Recto Avenue in Manila last  January 29.

Police Officer 3 Amelito Lopez of the Manila Police District homicide section confirmed this, as he said that in fact, the Cagayan police arrived in Manila last Monday with warrants for De Asis who is wanted for murder and frustrated murder in their province.

Earlier on, De Asis was shot on his left torso by a carpenter and fellow Cagayan resident, Jose Buendia, 52, who was shot dead by a policeman whom Buendia sought for help.

Police later learned that De Asis is a suspect in the shooting of rival political party supporters in May 2010 in Bgy. Bangag, Solana, Cagayan, and has been at-large since then.  He was also suspected of masterminding an attempted assassination on a Cagayan policeman in April 2010.
