Councilor, sons tagged in attack on family of 4

FOUR members of a family were seriously wounded after a city councilor and his two sons allegedly mauled and fired on them for unknown reason in Malabon City yesterday morning.

The victims’ relatives identified the suspects as Councilor Diosdado “Dado” Cunanan and his sons Ryan and Rom, all of Pineapple Street, Barangay Potrero, Malabon City.

The victims were identified as Melvin Andaca, 18; his brother Mark Anthony, 20; cousin Ian, 22; and brother-in-law Jeffrey Fuentes, 22,  all of University Avenue, also in Barangay Potrero.

Andacas’ father Darius, 37, said his son Melvin could have been dead by now had not a female vendor rush and shielded him from the Cunanans.

“Hindi kami makalapit ng asawa kong si Karen sa anak namin kasi tinututukan kami ni Konsehal ng baril, mabuti na lang at malakas ang loob ni Liza, yung vendor at tinulungan siya,” Darius said.

Melvin said their group was having a drinking session at the corner of Pineapple Street and MacArthur Highway when Ryan approached and reportedly hit his head with a bottle without provocation.

The councilor’s bodyguard identified as Ferdinand Horanilla reportedly hacked the victim twice in both knees. Melvin’s companions tried to help him but the councilor and Rom allegedly opened fired at them hitting Ian in the right foot.

“Para po silang namamaril ng ibon kaya nagpulasan talaga ang mga tao sa paligid sa takot na tamaan,” Melvin said.

The victims’ family were dismayed when the Cunanans twisted the story and accused them of gun possession and shooting them.       Mia Billones
