METROPOLITAN Manila Development Authority Chairman Francis Tolentino challenged an award-winning team of young inventors to build a robot traffic enforcer.
The high school team from Dr. Yanga’s Colleges, Inc. in Bocaue, Bulacan was honored during the flag raising ceremony at the MMDA compound Monday.
The team won the 4th place in the annual World Robot Olympiad held in Abu Dhabi recently for their robot named MAGIS that can detect floods, body temperature and blood pressure among others.
Tolentino challenged the team, composed of Romyr Gimeno, Chelsea Morales, Alexandra Mae Guevarra, Claire Receli Renosa and coach Beryl Cruz, to create a Robot Traffic Enforcer for the agency that will be stationed at traffic signalized intersections.
The Robot Enforcer will also detect motorists who beat traffic lights and commit other violation.
Coach Beryl Cruz said the team is currently working on a robot that can detect double-dead meat for use in public markets and slaughterhouses. It may be the team’s entry to another international competition. Alvin Murcia
