THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) yesterday charged before the Department of Justice six persons in connection with their foiled attempt to smuggle into the country some P30 million worth of used clothing (uka-ukay) before Christmas.
Commissioner Rozzano “Ruffy” Biazon and Deputy Commissioner Peter Manzano personally led the filing of the case for violation of RA 6453 and Section 2503 of the Tariff and Customs Code of the Philippines (TCCP) against the suspects, namely: Ildefonso B. Malagonio, owner/proprietor of Heritage Asia-International Products based in Tondo, Manila, and his broker, Nanneth M. Pacia; Marilyn T. Anunciacion, owner/proprietor of Global Welltrade Trading based in Dau, Mabalacat, Pampanga; and Ed Marvin dela Merced, owner of Javeson Trading, which is also based in Tondo, Manila.
Also charged were Anunciacion’s customs representative Carlos A. Torres, customs broker Janneth M. Pacia and, Eugenio B. Gardiola, customs broker for Javeson Trading.
Heritage declared its shipment of one 40-footer van as “assorted garments” but it was found to contain assorted used clothing, bags and shoes.
On the other hand, Global declared its shipment in four 40-footer vans as “assorted garments” but were found to contain assorted used clothing, bags, toys and Christmas décors.
