A 62-YEAR-OLD man, said to be engaged in the manufacture of fake barangay certificates being used to solicit money from politicians, was nabbed by operatives of the Manila City Hall Detachment.

Suspect Elpidio Modrigo, of 106 Basilio St., Alabang, Muntinlupa City, was nabbed late Friday afternoon after Chairwoman Milaflor Sabado, of Bgy. 870-Zone 95, Pandacan, Manila, received information that fake certificates from her barangay are being used in a solicitation racket victimizing councilors and congressmen.

Upon learning about the racket, Sabado wrote the councilors in the sixth district as well as Rep. Sandy Ocampo not to entertain such solicitations supposedly coming from her barangay.

The fake certificates, she said, even bear faked signatures of hers, the barangay secretary and the councilmen as well.

According to the complaint, Ocampo has so far released P3,000 to the unscrupulous individuals.

This prompted Sabado to hold a meeting and decided to have him arrested, after the latter was positively identified as the one distributing the solicitation letters.

Police, meanwhile, suspect that Modrigo does not work alone and is now investigating who else may be working with the suspect.

Appropriate charges were filed against Modrigo before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office.
